Creating a Digital Twin for a Supply Chain Network (presentation in English)
Marc Kerremans, Research Director Gartner
One of the top 10 technology trends for 2017 are Digital Twins. A Digital Twin is a dynamic model of a thing or system that relies on sensor and/or other data to understand its state, respond to changes, improve operations and add value.
Digital twins are transformational, because within three to five years, hundreds of millions, ultimately billions, of things will be represented by digital twins. Benefits include asset optimization and improved user experience across nearly all industries, initially for more complex, high-value assets, but increasingly, organizations will use digital twins to proactively repair and plan for equipment service, to plan manufacturing processes, to operate factories, to predict equipment failure or increase operational efficiency, and to perform enhanced product development.
This presentation will focus on the how models, operations intelligence, and performance management have evolved into this digital twin for a supply chain network and close with a case study.
